Q & A
This product is not designed for use with Ceramic tiles.
Hi Alistair, Travertine tiles are fine for use within correctly prepared wet areas. As with any tiling project, it is essential that walls are of suitable construction, to hold the weight of the tiles. Plaster or plaster skim can only hold a maximum of 20kg per sqm, whereas bare unskimmed plasterboard (32kgs) or a backer board such as HardieBacker (over 100kgs) would be more suitable. https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/hardiebacker-board-james-hardie The substrate also needs to be made waterproof by using a suitable tanking system, such as the Ardex WPC: https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/ardex-tile-preparation-sealants-ardex-wpc-waterproof-protection-coat The tiles need fixing with a White flexible adhesive (Stand-Flex) and also require sealing both before and after grouting, with either the LTP Mattstone or the LTP Colour Intensifier: https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/toolshed-tile-adhesive-standard-flex-white-tile-adhesive https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/ltp-cleaning-protecting-ltp-mattstone-tile-sealer-11256 https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/ltp-cleaning-protecting-ltp-tile-colour-intensifier-11264 If you wish to discuss your project in more detail, please call our sales team on 01536 314730, and they will be more than happy to help you. Hi Brian, For any tile that requires sealing, it is recommended to give them a coat before grouting (to aid grout removal and prevent potential staining) and after grouting (to ensure the tile is sealed and to also seal the grout). The porosity of most quarry tiles is usually quite low, so only very thin applications with a microfibre cloth will be required for full protection. Regards Walls And Floors
Hi Andrew, The coverage will depend on the tile porosity and how many coats will be required. As a rule, 1 litre will average 10 sqm per coat, sometimes more depending on how porous the tile is and how much will sink in. As a general guide, quarry tiles will only need on coat - marble, travertine, limestone, slate 2-3 coats - handmade terracotta up to 5 coats. However there is an element of trial and error as you continue to apply the sealer until the tile will not allow any more. I hope this helps but if you wish to discuss your project in more detail, please contact our sales team on 01536 314730 and they will be more than happy to assist you.
